Anyone who has kept up-to-date with this blog will be aware that following retirement one of the main changes has been to my diet. Christine and I are not entirely in agreement on what we should eat. But today has been very strange, well in fact the Strange Day started yesterday afternoon...

Christine decided that we would have one 'no cooking day' every week. A day in which we could get fish and chips or have a Pizza or Chinese or if we like, eat out. So we decide to go down to the local pub. "Glass of wine?" I ask as we walk in, "may as well have a carafe" says Christine. Now as you should know Christine will only drink maybe a couple of glasses which leaves a lot left! So it's Steak and Kidney Pie, chips and gravy and a lot of wine. This will do for me every week.

So to this morning. I go to the breakfast room and Christine asks if I want bacon with my poached egg and muffin. Now I realise I am sleep walking so I go back to the bedroom to look for Christine but she's not there. I go back to the kitchen to hear "did you say you wanted bacon?" A few minutes later it's on the table alongside Christines wallpaper paste. I am confused but make no comments. We eat our breakfasts and get to the morning tasks.

We are in the middle of decorating the Garden Room and at the moment Christine has four big stripes from sample pots painted on the wall. One is Zophany paint, two are Farrow and Ball and one is Crown Period. Now I haven't priced the Zophany but it won't be cheap, the Farrow and Ball is £22 a tin and the Crown Period is on offer at three for the price of two at Focus which makes it about £8 a tin. Whilst having our morning coffee in the garden room Christine mentions that she will have the end stripe for the room. I casually look behind me and see it's the Crown. It's all I can do to stop from dropping my coffee.

So it was Pie and chips last night, bacon, egg and muffin for breakfast and Crown paint on the walls which if we buy on a Tuesday we get a further 10% on our Focus granny card. I have no idea what's going on but while it's all going well I'm off down the shops in my slippers to buy a new Black Book and a lottery ticket. I will keep you informed.
