So that’s it. The World Cup’s finished, Italy won, as I said last week they probably agreed the score with the ref before hand. Wimbledon’s finished, there was no interest there after Sharapova got knocked out. So what do we watch on TV now.
I noted Christine gingerly getting to grips with the remote control again so it’s likely we are to get back to the house and garden make-over programmes. But just maybe with the kitchen finished and the new cooker installed some cookery programmes will be included.
I know I grumble continually about Christine’s menus but there is more to life than wallpaper paste, vegetables and grilled fish. I have also said many times “is it me” well now I know it is because look what can happen....
Alex and Dave go to York for the weekend to meet up with Sean at his pub that leaves Christine and I to look after the Joe and Amber, the grandkids. Friday night they are asked what they want for tea and reply “PUB”. “OK” says Christine so it’s off to the pub for fish and chips, too easy. On Saturday morning we are all in Beverley and pop into Lord Everingham’s café for coffee and biscuits before going home for sausage rolls for lunch. “They both like sausage rolls” says Christine, I remind her that I like sausage rolls but I still get a salad sandwich.
Joe says he would like sausage casserole for tea so we get sausage casserole with roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, nothing wrong with that. On Sunday morning the kids ask if they can have a brunch instead of breakfast, “no problem” says Christine and promptly produces bacon, sausage, fried egg (I can’t remember the last time an egg was ever allowed to be fried in our kitchen), mushrooms and beans with English muffins, croissants and toast on the side. I wonder if I should ask about the black pudding but decide not to push my luck, as it is I am not sure if this isn’t only a dream.

And then at tea time we get pasta with home baked bread. Yes that’s olive and sun dried tomato bread straight from our new oven. Is this a new beginning, is this what to expect from now on. Unfortunately I spotted the bread coming out of the oven and realised that it was Alex who had done the baking although Christine was lending a hand with the oven door so it’s a start.
Now it’s Monday and I see some home made burgers on the worktop. Can’t be bad, Monday and it is Burgers with chips and beans. I mention that the burgers look good, “for the kids” says Christine as the fish and vegetables are taken from the fridge. At least they are being wrapped in foil with herbs and I am sure they will come with chips! Ever wanted to be a kid again?
