So there I was in the shower thinking about what to Blog about today and it came to me that I do a lot of thinking in the shower. Some of my best thoughts and ideas have originated in the shower. And that’s even ignoring the ones about Kylie almost in that white dress.
It is obviously a water thing, remember old Archimedes, the ‘Eureka’ guy discovered something about water displacement when it came over the top of his bath and while I accept my ideas have probably not been on that level I have never-the-less come up with some good ones. The latest being the complete layout of our cottage extension and refurbishment when prior to the shower we were in the process of selling the cottage to move to a larger house.
My theory is that
‘the brain is stimulated in direct relationship to the force of the water being deposited on the cranium’
therefore creating an environment of creativity within the shower cubicle. Of course the principle has so far not been either scientifically or medically proven but it also has not been proven as false. So there we have it. The shower is the place to think.
I got to thinking about why we shower. Is it to keep clean, to stop from smelling, to revitalise or maybe a combination of all these and I got to thinking about when I spent ten years or so working away from home living in hotels. Every morning out of bed into the shower before breakfast, that’s OK I still do that now, but every evening when arriving at the next hotel it was unpack the case and jump in the shower. This is my second shower of the day, I’m not going anywhere except down to the restaurant for a meal, I’m not usually meeting anyone but still I have my second shower of the day. On the odd occasions that I managed to get home during the week to spend a night with Christine, did I immediately jump in the shower, no, I just had my tea and fell asleep watching TV. I still do that by the way. I do wonder sometimes how I am still married but more of that in my next offering..
Even if I was meeting someone at the hotel and arived very pushed for time, which often happened, a shower was essential. My fastest turn round time was ten minutes to unpack, shower, dress and get down to the restaurant. Mind you I was slow compared to Richard, my ex colleague and very good friend who only needed thirty minutes before being due for dinner to have twenty minutes in the gym, ten minutes in the pool, five minutes in the steam room and still have time to have a shower get dressed, pull in his e-mails, make a couple of phone calls, update his black book, check his diary for tomorrow and still be first in the bar having a pint of Grolch. I know the maths don’t work but the point is that I was expected to keep up as some of our best decisions originated during these sessions. I don’t know which was more stressful the job or the pre dinner activity, having a rest is a concept that totally escapes Richard.

So there I was in the shower this morning thinking of nothing inparticular, except Kylie of course and in my book that's not a bad way to start the day when the water druming on my head begins to make my brain tingle and ‘Eureka’ I suddenly realise that we have an important wedding aniversary coming up and Christine, I am sure would like to go somewhere for some pampering and luxury, which I need to arrange.
The worlds our lobster now we are retired, plenty of time to do anything we want so is it to be a weekend in New York, a few days in the Barcelona, maybe a trip to Paris perhape the Orient Express. My brain is working overtime I need to get on-line.
After two hours on the net I have booked our trip to ................................! More to follow next time.
