So we are off once again to Barcelona. All I can say here and now is that in a million years I will never understand woman and as I have mentioned on numerous occasions, particularly Christine.
As regular readers will know Christine and I have very different ideas on the type of food we should eat. Christine eats fruit, vegetables and fish and I don’t , unless of course the fish is battered and fried with a generous helping of chips and mushy peas. So here we are all excited off to see Alex, Dave and grandkids sitting in Leeds Bradford airport getting a snack before we fly, I’m minding the cases while Christine goes to the counter. She returns with a tray of two coffees and two bananas, I’m looking around for the second tray with something more interesting on it but I don’t seem to see one. I assume they are now cooking my sausages to go in a bread bun or maybe a little bacon in a roll but then again maybe not because Christine is now peeling her banana and starting to eat it.
I ask about the sausage or bacon only for Christine to say “they only had bananas or sausage rolls and I didn’t want to upset your stomach”. Upset my stomach! I have been eating sausage rolls for the 43 or so years we have known each other and now all of a sudden she is doing me a favour by bringing me a banana instead. Before I can join the queue at the counter to get myself a sausage roll she has gone off shopping for some things to take to the kids leaving me with the cases.
Ok. But not to worry, I can get a sandwich on the plane, Jet2.com do a ‘meal deal’, something like a BLT, packet of crisps and a coffee for a fiver, not too bad. So we have taken off and the Air Steward brings round the cart and asks if she can get us something. Before I have time to say ‘meal deal please’ Christine says “no thanks, we are all right” and with that produces yet another two bananas from her hand bag. What’s with the bananas all of a sudden. Before I realise what’s happened the steward is three rows down and I’ve not got a sandwich and I’m eating my second banana of the day.
That makes it wall paper paste for breakfast and two bananas so far today. I must be healthy, hungry but healthy, but never mind Alex will be doing something very nice for our evening meal. Which of course she did. We had an excellent casserole with plenty of crispy jacket potatoes and some vegetables for those that want them. That didn't include me naturally.
The only problem is that now they are settling into Spanish or I should say Catalan life, the evening meals come later in the evening. So we finally sit down about 9.00pm. Fortunately my two bananas have fortified me sufficiently. Oh yes and maybe the four bottles of wine we drank before the meal arrived helped as well. But more on the drink situation later.
